This is a Test of the Typepad Headline

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on August 30th, 2008
Does this work or what? Why, oh why does Typepad constantly cut off the first half of my headlines? Aargh!! Anyone know? I've brought this to Typepad's attention about 4 times already and it's still not fixed! If you're tech-savvy, please write to me!

As I'm sitting here unable to sleep because of my horrific Lyme disease-induced headache (I hate that tick!), I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! So many of you have been kind enough to write to me and wish me a speedy recovery since hearing my radio show about Lyme disease in which I interviewed seven top experts and briefly told my story. Thank you sooo much for writing to me! I really, really appreciate it! I'm so very grateful to you for your understanding, kindness and patience. Anyhow, your wishes seem to have helped! Yeah!...

Meditation, Yoga & Politics — Attendees of Democratic National Convention Are Into “Om”

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on August 27th, 2008
It's nice to see that people attending the Democratic National Convention took time out to do yoga and meditating, as the Denver Post reports. The benefits of meditation are numerous. In fact, I just don't buy the conclusions of last year's study, which downplayed meditation's therapeutic value. You can use meditation to help you kick sugar, lose weight, quit smoking and most importantly, unwind. I agree with yoga and meditation teacher Dada Vedaprajinananda. "If you get into the practice of meditation, no one will have to twist your arm to make you live a healthy lifestyle," he maintains, "it will...

Sugar & Lyme Disease — Don’t Have Sugar While Grappling With Lyme Disease, Reader Writes

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on August 26th, 2008
I love getting mail from readers of this blog. Here's an interesting e-mail I just received from John in Maryland, who, unfortunately has Lyme disease, like me:"I have Lyme disease and I wanted to comment on the issue of eating sugar/sweet food/carbs when you have Lyme disease and while on antibiotics. "Sugar in all its forms (except stevia) is a real problem when you have Lyme and are on antibiotics for months. With a weakened immune system and being on antibiotics...eating sugar is a recipe for disaster. "Yeast overgrowth is a real problem for people taking long-term antibiotics, and yeast...

Herbs & Spices Can Slow Down Aging

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on August 25th, 2008
It wasn't until I quit sugar in another lifetime (10 years ago) that I began liberally experimenting with and appreciating enticing spices such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, dill weed, turmeric, oregano, thyme, fennel and sage. Nowadays, spices play a huge role in my meals, allowing me to have fun while alternating spices, although cinnamon and cloves, such as I just had on my goat's milk yogurt this morning, tend to be among my favorites. Well, it's time for all of us to spice up our foods. Spices are not only rich in antioxidants, but they are "potent inhibitors of tissue...

Reader Rakes Me Over the Coals for Talking About Lyme Disease, Not Sugar! (Follow-Up Show Anyhow)

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on August 22nd, 2008
Yesterday -- as I was a month-plus into horrific headaches, frequent bouts of cognitive confusion such as forgetting what I'm in the middle of saying or doing, sleep woes galore (too much or too little), and feeling incredibly wiped out (chronic fatigue sufferers, move over) due to the case of Lyme disease I got from a nasty, little tick -- I opened what has to be one the most ferociously, angry e-mails I've ever received from a subscriber to my free e-zine. As my body was flooded with antibiotics to kill the bacteria making me feel so cruddy, I read...

Blog Snafu, Blog Snafu, Blog Snafu

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on August 22nd, 2008
Please note, for some weird reason, the heds (headlines) on my most recent blog posts are being chopped off! Trying to find a blog-savvy person to fix. Aargh. Forgive the error until I can figure out how to resolve it. FYI, that's why the headline to this post is repeated over and over again -- so you can see it!

Music: No Need to Turn to Sugar, Drugs, Booze, Etc. When Soothing, Uplifting Tunes Can Lift Your Spirits

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on August 22nd, 2008
As I'm sitting here faced by an almost non-stop, ferocious, crushing Lyme disease-induced headache, which makes sleep virtually impossible, I'm easily riding it through, thanks to the fabulous tunes of "Miss Saigon" to which I'm now listening. Which leads me to ask those of you who are suffering with bad habits: Why turn to sugar, drugs, alcohol and other horrible substances or self-destructive pursuits when music can salve and soothe your soul? Try it sometime. Turn on tunes instead of rushing to self-defeating behavior. (You know what they are for you.) Now, I invite you to learn about the benefits...
