Sugar Addiction Begone — SUGAR SHOCK! Helps Reader

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on March 12th, 2008
Thanks to Devin for her kind words on her Discovering Motherhood blog about how my book helped opened her eyes about sugar's dangers. Although she posted this a while back, I just saw her remarks today -- I'm that far behind on reading Google alerts! She wrote: "I know it sounds a little radical, but sugar really does make me feel terrible. It steals my energy, causes extreme moodiness and so much more. After reading the book I realized why I felt so good on my sugar-free diet and why everything had changed. "When I was at the library the...

Sugar Shock! — A Success Story

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on March 11th, 2008
Given my hectic schedule, I rarely take time out to share some of the hundreds of comments that I regularly receive, but I just had to share one that came in recently from Rowena. She wrote: "I've lost 30 lbs since August just by cutting sugar -- the detox is wicked but after trying to quit for three years, I finally `got It.' I do use the fake stuff occasionally, but that's going, too, this summer. I mention this to you for people who are very large like me, it's not so easy for us to quit, but the sugar...

Diet Soda Danger: Chicago Tribune Cites SUGAR SHOCK!

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on March 10th, 2008
Thanks to Chicago Tribune columnist Julie Deardorff for drawing attention in Sunday's paper (March 9, 2008) to the dangers of diet soda and offering some valuable tips to people on how to kick the beverage. Her much-needed column, "Stop! Don't Reach for that Diet Soda," also included some quotes and remarks from me. Bear in mind, as I also mentioned to Julie for this companion piece, artifically sweetened foods and drinks can be just as dangerous as sugar, and recent research -- which I've written about here previously -- shows that these "diet substances" can actually trigger carb cravings and...

Sugar Addiction: The Cause of Obesity, Says U.K’s Delia Smith

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on March 8th, 2008
Chef and TV personality Delia Smith, who's quite renowned in the United Kingdom, is quoted by the Times over there as pinning the blame on sugar addiction for obesity. The author of the bestselling book, How to Cheat at Cooking -- who you can hear interviewed here -- told The Times: “The problem with obesity stems from people not eating square meals. There are too many junk foods. And people get addicted to sugar. If you have not had a square meal, it is much more tempting to have a chocolate bar. That’s what causes obesity. It’s addiction. "To cure...

Institute for Integrative Nutrition: Hear Deepak Chopra, Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Mehmet Oz & Others

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on March 8th, 2008
People often write to me because they learned that I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. They pepper me with questions. They want to know if the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) was any good, how it helped me, what kinds of practical training it provided, etc. They want to know if this is the right school for them. So, I decided to create a blog post about the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to answer the multitude of queries that come in. (Another two just came in this week.) Here goes. Before I begin, my short answer to your question...

BlogTalkRadio.com: Kudos to the Folks at This Groundbreaking Site (Where I Host My Stop SUGAR SHOCK! Radio Show) For More Media Attention

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on March 8th, 2008
Kudos to BlogTalkRadio.com -- where I host my Stop SUGAR SHOCK! Radio Show -- for continuing to garner media attention. The most recent piece is from Conde Nast's Portfolio, which ran a fascinating story about this cutting-edge venue. The article by reporter David Levine includes the following telling quotes: "'I think that [BlogTalk] represents something that’s far greater than itself,' says Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, a leading talk-radio-industry trade publication. 'There’s a whole bunch of new Web-based entities that I predict will be the media stations of the future.'" And the writer, David Levine, also observes this about...
