Inmates Want More Nutrient-Rich Food!
You've gotta admire the guts of these three inmates, who filed a $2 million lawsuit claiming they are not getting proper nutritional value from their meals. "The calories and nutritional value for adults and juveniles are not up to par," the suit signed by all three men reads, according to the Courier News. "The food is served cold and most times, bread, cookies and cakes are served soggy due to wet and cracked trays. Food is distasteful and disgusting." I wonder if the lawsuit mentions anything about whether or not the prisoners' moods and energy levels are being affected by...

Soda May Raise Risk of Gout, A Form of Arthritis, Study Finds
Note from Connie: On and on it goes. It seems like every week or two, we learn about another study, which suggests that sugar can be linked to one disease or ailment after another. The body makes uric acid when digesting food and...

Note from Connie: Today, since headed out of town today for two weeks to give several talks and seminars in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego, I'm pleased to present some articles from nutrition colleagues. Here is a wonderful guest article from Cynthia Stadd, C.H.H.C., founder of Cynfully Healthy. I was fortunate to meet the dynamic, charming Cynthia at a recent party for graduates of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where we both went to school. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom Takes the Lead: Urges Retailers To Charge Extra for HFCS-Sweetened Soda
Hurrah to trim, health-minded San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom for taking a stand against soda by proposing a controversial idea to charge major retailers a fee when they sell high fructose corn syrup-laden soft drinks. Mayor Newsom is singling out sugary soda to help combat obesity among the residents of San Francisco, given the growing body of evidence, which blames HCFS-laden soft drinks for helping to pack pounds on Americans. This proposal is being hailed as the first in the nation. But, as reporters Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross point out in their popular San Francisco Chronicle column, this tax-on-soda...
