Britney Spears: Could Her Behavior Be Caused By Her Sugar Addiction?

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on December 12th, 2007
Back in mid-March, I wondered here, on this SUGAR SHOCK! Blog, if Britney Spears is a sugar addict. I asked: "Might drugs, sugar or alcohol have triggered erratic, unpredictable behavior in her such as when the pop star shaved off her gorgeous locks on Feb. 16?" Interestingly, yesterday -- nine months after I speculated that Britney had a sugar problem -- Access Hollywood raised the same issue, even quoting an expert, who expressed horror about Britney's "toxic diet" and her bizarre behavior such as attacking a car with an umbrella. “She’s a person who’s completely addicted to sugar," Dr. Timothy...

Sugar and Alzheimer’s Disease: Is There a Link?

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on December 12th, 2007
If you drink too many sugary sodas, you may increase your risk for developing Alzheimer's disease late in life, new research suggests. While this study was conducted on mice, not humans, study co-author Ling Li, DVM, PhD, of the University of Alabama at Birmingham says the findings add to the evidence implicating poor diet as a risk factor for Alzheimer's risk, according to Medicine.net. The findings were fascinating: Mice were fed either water or sugar water -- about the equivalent of five cans of sugary soda a day for a human. Sure enough, the brains of mice fed sugar water...

My blog researcher Jennifer Moore brings you more info about this eye-opening study, which we learned about from this eye-opening article from Megan Rauscher of Reuters. “All Natural”: Don’t Be Duped By Such Misleading Claims

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on December 9th, 2007
Ever wonder what that seemingly innocuous phrase, "all natural" means? Take your power back and get educated. A good first step is to read an article by my colleague, Mike Adams, a.k.a., the "Health Ranger," over at the popular website, NewsTarget.com. Mike explains how The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn't regulate claims of "all natural" even though the agency claims to do just that. In fact, food companies are getting away with using all sorts of non-natural processes and chemical ingredients in a food product that they claim is "all natural," Mike explains. Check out Mike's interesting article now...

Fast Food Nightmare: Kids With Good Grades “Win” McDonald’s Happy Meals in Florida

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on December 9th, 2007
In school, kids are supposed to learn reading, writing and arithmetic. Is it too much to ask that children also begin to get some nutrition basics from at least one of their teachers? Apparently, in Florida's Seminole County, the notion of teaching kids about healthy eating and good food is a foreign one. The school board there struck the most ill-conceived, nutritionally horrific, jaw-droppingly bad deal with McDonald's restaurants in Seminole County: For the 2007-2008 school year, elementary school kids with good grades and near-perfect attendance are rewarded with Happy Meals. That's right. If you're one of the 27,000 school...

Salt: The “Forgotten Killer” — The AMA & CSPI Urge Crackdown On the White Powder, But What About The-More-Dangerous Substance, Sugar?

Posted in Diabetes Articles by Connie Bennett on December 7th, 2007
Salt is on the minds lately of the Food and Drug Administration, the American Medical Association and the Center for Science in the Public Interest. But should salt -- the so-called "forgotten-killer" -- be the prime focus of governmental and medical attention and potential regulation rather than even-more-forgotten-and deadly sugar? Yes, salt can lead to fatalities, but the other white powder, sugar, and its relatives (other refined sweeteners) can kill way more people than salt. Let me bring you up to date on salt's heated debate. The FDA is considering limiting salt content in processed and restaurant foods, because the...
