If you have job burnout but are apparently healthy, you're still at risk for getting type 2 diabetes, researchers from Tel Aviv University discovered. In other words, if you're stressed out, emotionally exhausted, physically fatigued and experience cognitivie wearniness, you better start taking better care of yourself. It has been suggested that stress plays a significant role in the (development) of type 2 diabetes, Dr Samuel Melamed from Tel Aviv University told Reuters Health. Dr. Melamed is lead author of a study, which appears in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine. Emotional burnout may pose risk to health. Earlier studies have found...
Today, I'm pleased to present another SUGAR SHOCK! Snapshot guest column from fellow IIN grad Jasmin Singer. Her observations are quite astute. Kids Are Like Crack Addicts by Jasmin Singer My mother is an art teacher at an elementary school located in an inner city in New Jersey. I recently spent a day observing her at work. It was jarring to me as I witnessed children go from bouncing off the walls to almost comatose within a matter of minutes. Here are the notes I doodled on the side of my paper as the day progressed: 9:00 a.m.: The kids...
Given the flurry of bad press that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has had of late, Jones Soda Co. has taken the move to switching sweeteners in its soft drinks. HFCS is being shown the door; sugar is being ushered in instead. So reports SeatttlePI.com. How intriguing. And we're not just talking about obesity. We're talking about heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc. OK, I'll be blunt: If I had...

Just came back from a much-needed mini-vacation (which also included a photo shoot for an upcoming national article in which I'm featured). Anyhow, a fascinating press release awaited me all about a 30-month South Korean study, which showed that patients with diabetes, who have online access and feedback from their doctors are better able to lower and stabilize their blood glucose levels than those who just visit a doctor every few months. The study, which is in the current (December) issue of Diabetes Care (which is published by the American Diabetes Assocation), discusses this fascinating work done by Kun-Ho Yoon,...
